Joanne Ussery, from Mississippi, had her old house burnt down, so she chose to refurbish a Boeing 727 airplane near a peaceful river. After hearing about her story, Campbell decided to change his original plan and try a similar innovative project himself.

3. Airplane Purchase

Therefore, in 1999, he bought a Boeing 727 airplane from Olympic Airways for $100,000. Everything seems going well, but then challenges appeared when it came to transporting this giant plane into the Oregon woods. Campbell ended up spending $120,000 on transportation to finally receive this airplane. But he says every penny spent on this plane was worth it.

4. Aircraft Modification

Next, Campbell renovated the entire plane. This is the entrance to his airplane home. He fixed the ladder to the ground and installed light strips for lighting at night, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that matches well with the forest’s greenery.

Entering the plane, you can see his workbench and storage area for necessities. He often tinkers with aircraft parts here. Some daily necessities behind him are orderly in chaos. The spacious space is also suitable for hosting guests.

Despite the limited space on the plane, he still managed to create a fully functional bathroom with a toilet, washbasin, storage area, trash can, etc., which is very similar to the original one on the plane.

Due to limited toilet space on the plane, the washing machine, sink and bathtub are placed inside the cabin, making the toilet and washroom apart. Every day, Campbell washes in this spacious bathroom, preparing for the day ahead.

Campbell bought a lengthy sofa and placed it in the front cabin. He cleverly used two cabins of different sizes to separate the bedroom and the living room, creating a private and cozy resting space.By day, it serves as a workstation, while at night turning to a peaceful sleep haven.

Notably, he transformed the floor into a transparent one, revealing the pipes below, so that he can quickly find the place that needs to be repaired when problems occur, helping to minimize losses.

Although the inside of Boeing 727 is spacious enough, Campbell lives a modest and simple life. He didn’t spend a lot of time on building a multifunctional kitchen, but chose to use a microwave and a toaster to make quick meals. This is probably the lifestyle he pursues!
